To protect your privacy you need to protect and properly destroy your sensitive documents and cards. Learn to live a life with the minimum paper around you.

Mail Life Cycle:

  1. Open your mail.
  2. Review it (e.g. verify you bank statement rigorously).
  3. Make digital copy.
  4. Properly dispose it i.e. shredd it.

Placing unwanted documents in a recycling bin can expose you to identity thieves or just plain snoops.

A cross-cut shredder will do the job, shredding into small bits of paper and making it harder to reassemble the documents.

Finally shredd old credit/debit card, modern shredders can do that as well. The other day I handed in an unwanted credit card to my bank account manager, wrongly he/she using a paper punch perferoted the magnetic stripe, the fact is that most transactions this days are done by EMV standard or chip-and-PIN.
